In my view, nothing can compete with the natural alignment, the seemingly random patterns created by time and wear. My eyes fall on a combination of textures, shapes, lights, reflections, and the composition clearly emerges as an abstraction. I see this beauty and interplay best when I am not looking. When the sight of something catches me by surprise.

These days I use digital photography to capture these abstractions, hidden in plain view. I often collect a series of images along a single theme, finding inspiration in the mundane – common barn boards, pavement, bedrock outcrops, etc.
